Hungry Boy : I am hungry. I need food to eat.
Waiter : Show me the certificate, Sir!
Hungry Boy : Why? I am only hungry!
Waiter : I am sorry, but we need a proof of it.
This is no joke. This is the future. We live in a world where proves are regarded as the ultimate sign of your authentication. Your existence means nothing if you cannot prove yourself. Mostly these proves are through a hard piece of paper, commonly named as a CERTIFICATE.
Right from the second you are born, you are provided with this hard sheet of paper (pardon, "Certificate"). This certificate is now responsible for your birth. When you grow up a little, you get a "child of this certificate", an Identity Card. You are alive, you exist, you breath. But that all doesn't count until you have an identity card. Your death is also proved not by your dead body, but by your Death Certificate.
Like every coin has two faces, this certificate system has a few pros as well. But they are already mentioned everywhere, so, I wouldn't write them here.
The thing that makes me hate this system the most is that other than the identity, these certificates are also used as a symbol of knowledge. Students these days are running the race just to earn a certificate. Experience, skill and talent is all second thing. Certificate is all you must have. You have no knowledge if you have no certificate. People pay huge amounts to run in this race of certificates. They think certificate is more than the knowledge.
There are certificates which showcase your marks, your rank. But they shouldn't be considered as final. They are nothing in front of your mind and creativity. The certificate should be limited to only that particular exam, but not for every other proceeding ones too.
Good work needs to be proved just as you prove a bad thing. Shoot a video of you donating food to the needy and you will be treated holy. Donate and you forget to shoot a video, you are considered a liar.
How can a certificate hold so much value?
We design and make certificates which in the end hold much more value than us. What an irony! That piece of paper decides my knowledge.
A person with no skill gets a pile of fake certificates and gets hired. Whereas, a highly skilled person with no certificate is rejected and considered as a dumb.
Is this system correct?
Of course certificates are good and valid for some cases, but not for every case.
If we continue to live like this, running after proves and certificates, then that day is not to far when you have to prove your hunger, your thirst and even prove that you have brushed your teeth, that too through a valid certificate.
After all this this is my definition of proof and certificate-
- proof
Noun
1. Symbol of truth and innocence.
- certificate
Noun
1. An expensive hard sheet of paper which proves you are educated.
2. An authentication of your birth, survival and death.
Choose to be skilled, choose to be knowledgeable, choose to be learned. Certificates will expire one day, your knowledge will survive forever.
You can share your knowledge, but not your certificate.
